green campus mobility

Mobility is vital

One of the most important instruments to create a lively and vibrating Green Campus is to foresee in green, attractive, futuristic and multi modal, electric transport systems from and to the Green Campus and along the Green Campus. The mobility facilities are vital to attract people and to give them the freedom to travel and look around where they want to go at the moment they choose.

The Green Parking Lot is the hub, the mobility junction in the Green Campus. It is the place where you can park and charge your electric car or fill the tank of your combustion engine with sustainable fuels.

From this parking lot, you can go by electric public transport to the city, airport or more distant destinations. The Personal Rapid Transit system brings you to the railway station Delft South or to an electric whisper boat that provides regular services through the canals of Delft and to the city of Rotterdam. It is also planned that an electric tram will move along the Mekelweg.

You can also take a personal electric transport device, a bike, scooter, Segway, Tuk-Tuk, etc. to travel along the campus or move to the city of Delft. Electric taxi’s are located at the Parking Lot/Mobility Junction that can bring you to Zestienhoven airport and to the cities of Delft, the Hague and Rotterdam. New companies will offer the services to let you use these personal means of transportation affordable and easily.

The Personal Rapid Transit system

project status: on the drawing table

A futuristic Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system will be developed from the Railway station Delft South to the iconic Energy Gateway at the A13.

It will have a stop at the Schiekanaal, where you can step in one of the electric whisper boats and it will have a stop at the Green Parking Lot, the mobility junction. The PRT will be part of the energy wall. It is a vital element to connect the Green Campus to the public transport means. It is at least 10 meters above the ground and will give you an excellent and exciting overview of the Green Campus and adjacent areas. On board, you can do an augmented reality tour that shows the Green Campus and give you information about all sustainable and green aspects.

A light track with interactive LED lights along the PRT will be developed, in order to make this transport system also functional during night hours. Besides it creates a very visible element of the Green Campus and it can be used for dynamic advertising.

Furthermore the PRT can be expanded in future over the TU Delft campus, the Technopolis and even to the airport Zestienhoven and the nearby Schieveen company area that is under development in the framework of the Science Port Holland Developments. A simimilar PRT system is operational at Heathrow airport and in Masdar City.
