energy wall
project status: on the drawing table
The Energy Wall will be realized along the Kruithuisweg, from the Energy Gateway to the Railway Station Delft South over a distance of about 1 kilometer.
The basic idea is that the Energy Wall enables more compactness in densely populated areas of the built environment and traffic corridors. It reduces noise annoyance, improves the local air quality, generates renewable energy and facilitates a public transport device. Such a ‘wall’ does not use a lot of space, moreover it even saves space. Be reducing the noise and fine particles in the air, you can build close to the motorway. Its structure can even be used to reduce building costs of nearby utility and private buildings or suit other purposes, such as the construction of parking facilities nearby highways. In doing so, the Energy Wall serves various economic functions and also increases the land value behind the energy wall.
The Energy Wall is a truly revolutionary multi-functional wall. It combines the following:
- Sound barrier
- Renewable energy production,
- Solar cells integrated in the wall. In total about 1 MW.
- Large wind turbines, 2 or 3 large wind turbines of about 70 meter height, 45 meter rotor diameter and 800 kW rated power.
- Urban wind turbines, rotor diameter 4 meter, rated power 4 kW. In total about 20-30 of these turbines will be installed.
- Lighting the road and surrounding by LED lighting integrated in the wall between the solar cells. Even advertising with LED lights integrated in the wall is possible.
- Cleaning the air
- Reducing fine particles by electrostatic wires integrated in the wall.
- Reducing nitrogen oxides by using algae in transparent tubes integrated in the wall. These algae produce oxygen as well.
- Public transport by a personal rapid transit system carried by the wall structure. The PRT system will have stops at the Energy Gateway, the Green Parking Lot, the Schie and the Railway Station Delft South.
